The tale behind the poinsettias' origins during the Christmas season come from a story about a poor boy in Mexico who did not have a gift to offer the baby Jesus in the manger outside his church.

Because of his apparent distress, an angel appeared before the boy and instructed him to gather some weeds from the side of the road and offer them to the manger. Upon laying them down, the weeds transformed into beautiful star-shaped flowers of red, pink and white.

These poinsettias, or “Flor de la Noche Buena,” (the Flower of the Holy Night) amazed everyone in the church that Christmas Eve. Today, people around the world bring poinsettias into their homes and churches at Christmas to remember the star that led the Wise Men, and a little boy in Mexico, to the manger in which Jesus was born.
